Stories from the road. Walker Wednesday exhibition titled: Multiple Realities: Experimental Art in the Eastern Bloc 1960-1980. The exhibition features nearly 100 artists from six countries: East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungry, Romania, and Yugoslavia. At the time, these nations were called the Eastern Bloc and subject to the Soviet Union (USSR). The Soviets dictated policies that controlled the work and exhibitions by artists. These works reflect art that was made outside of official systems. Artists organized their own, alternative art scenes, sustained by friendships, community, and solidarity.
