Earth Village of Compassion

We are held together by love. There is an opportunity even if you feel distant or are in places where the toxicity of hate seems overpowering. It would be good for our spirit to be especially vigilant when it comes to showing love and respect for one another. The whole world depends solely on the love that exists between us. Let us find in our heart of hearts compassion for one another, for the stranger, putting aside judgement and refusing to turn away from challenging situations that we might improve the health and wellbeing of our Earth Village.

How might we find our way in our modern world to understand the earth as a gift to make our relationship with the world sacred again? How might we shift our way of living–even in a market economy, to behave in a way that treats the living world as a holistic gift? While the world is radiant with beauty, it is also capable of bone chilling brutality and the small, but corrosive daily cruelties that salt our wounds with sorrow. For a sensitive person to live with this duality, to keep the light aflame without turning away from the shadows that need illumination may be the most difficult thing in life and the most rewarding.

If we seek compassion, we will find it everywhere and is the world’s richest energy source. I perceive that many are beginning to see the world as our only Earth Village, we need love and compassion as its bond more than ever—not for altruism’s sake, nor for philosophy’s sake or theology’s sake, but for survival’s sake. Communal generosity might seem irreconcilable with the process of evolution and individual survival, but it’s a profound and costly error if we try and separate individual well-being from the health of the whole. The power of unity is that what happens to one happens to all. We can starve together or feast together. Our flourishing is mutual.
